Is Manuka Valley a reputable company?
Yes, we are confident in our quality and answer the question of whether Manuka Valley is a reputable company with a resounding “yes.” But what manufacturer wouldn’t say that? That’s why we understand if you don’t believe us right away. In fact, we think that’s great, because as a consumer, it’s important that you remain critical and choose the best products based on objective quality criteria. We have therefore compiled a list of the most important quality criteria for Manuka honey below, and we’ll take a look together at how Manuka Valley meets them. We hope this will help you form your own opinion about the credibility of the Manuka Valley brand.
The Starting Point
Quality claims that are difficult to verify and significant price differences make it hard for consumers to determine which brand of Manuka honey they can trust. At the same time, reports of adulterated honey, unclear origins, or inadequate testing continue to surface.
When you buy Manuka honey, you want to be sure you’re getting an authentic, high-quality product. That’s why we’ve outlined the most important quality criteria below, which you can use to assess how reputable a Manuka honey brand really is. These criteria not only help you evaluate Manuka Valley—you can apply them to any Manuka honey brand to get an idea of its quality.
What quality criteria should a reputable Manuka honey supplier meet?
A reputable supplier or Manuka honey brand should meet the following quality criteria:
- Origin, Transparency, and Traceability
- Certified MGO content with clear labeling
- independent laboratory analyses
- Reasonable prices
- Sustainability and environmental awareness
- Customer Reviews & Product Tests
How can you tell if Manuka honey is authentic?
Authentic Manuka honey can be identified by clear proof of origin, independent laboratory analyses (certified MGO value), complete traceability, and transparent manufacturer information.
Origin, Transparency, and Traceability
Genuine Manuka honey is produced in New Zealand from the nectar of the Manuka plant (Leptospermum scoparium). Manuka Valley’s Manuka honeys come from the Wairarapa region on New Zealand’s North Island.
Transparency is just as important as origin. Quality-conscious customers are not satisfied with a mere indication of origin. They want to be able to fully trace the origin of their Manuka honey and, ideally, get a sense of the people who produce it.
To help you get to know the people behind our product, our About Us page introduces not only company founder Matthew Pettersson but also some of our beekeepers who produce this precious honey in New Zealand in collaboration with our hardworking bees.
At the heart of our transparency initiative is the Track & Trace system, which allows you to trace every single jar of Manuka honey back to the specific beekeeping operation in New Zealand based on its batch number.
Among other things, you'll find the following information about your Manuka honey there:
- Batch number
- related laboratory reports
- Information about the beekeeping operation
- Information on the harvest location and date
If you'd like to contact us, you'll find our address, email address, and phone number in our legal notice.
Certified MGO Content & Laboratory Analyses
A key quality characteristic and unique selling point of Manuka honey is its methylglyoxal (MGO) content. This can only be determined in a laboratory. It should be clearly stated on the label and certified by a laboratory.
As a general rule, you can only be sure that the honey is genuine Manuka honey if the MGO content has been certified by a laboratory and the test report is available for review.
At Manuka Valley, every batch is analyzed by independent laboratories in Germany. Among other things, these laboratories test our honeys for:
- Varietal purity: Is the Manuka honey 100% pure, or is it blended with other honeys?
- Pesticides: Is the honey free of glyphosate and other harmful pesticides?
- MGO: What is the MGO content in honey?
To make things as easy as possible for you, you'll find links to the corresponding lab reports in PDF format right on each product page for our individual Manuka honey varieties. You can also find a complete overview of all lab reports for all MGO levels on the Track & Trace page.
Feel free to compare the batch number on the jar with the number in the corresponding test report to make sure everything is correct.

MGO instead of UMF
While MGO (methylglyoxal) is a familiar term to those knowledgeable about Manuka honey, users often wonder what the UMF ratings for Manuka honey actually mean. Here is a brief explanation.
The MGO content is a scientific measurement that can be determined in a laboratory. TheUMF™(Unique Manuka Factor)sealis a registered trademark that may only be used by licensees based in New Zealand. While German companies can apply for this seal through a licensing partner, they may do so only if the Manuka honey was also bottled and labeled in New Zealand. Since we bottle and label our honey in Germany, Manuka Valley does not carry the UMF seal. Instead, we specify the MGO content and verify it through independent laboratory analyses.
Market price comparison
Manuka honey is not a mass-produced product and differs from conventional honey due to its high MGO content. It is classified into different MGO grades based on its MGO content. For example, Manuka honey ranges from low MGO levels of 100 mg per kilogram (MGO 100) to maximum levels of 1,200 mg per kilogram. The higher the MGO content, the rarer the Manuka honey. This is why an MGO 800+, for example, is significantly more expensive than an MGO 300+.
Manuka Valley's prices fall within the standard market range for MGO levels between 300+ and 800+. They are neither overpriced nor unusually low. Unusually low prices (often accompanied by very high MGO claims) are usually a sign of counterfeits.
Sustainability and environmental awareness
These days, “sustainability” is an overused term that is often more about appearances than substance. Let’s take a look at how Manuka Valley positions itself in terms of sustainability and environmental awareness.
A key feature of Manuka Valley is its consistent avoidance of plastic. While the market often relies on inexpensive plastics, Manuka Valley uses high-quality glass containers combined with bamboo lids. The idea behind this is that bamboo is one of nature’s fastest-growing renewable resources and offers an ecological footprint that far surpasses that of conventional metals or plastics.
Particularly noteworthy is the innovative refill system, which takes the concept of a circular economy to its logical conclusion. Instead of discarding empty jars after a single use, customers can return them to be refilled. This active contribution to waste reduction is also rewarded: as an incentive for their environmental commitment, customers receive a 10% discount on their next order—a classic win-win situation for people and nature.
The concept is rounded out by responsible logistics. Through our partnership with DHL GoGreen, the unavoidable CO2 emissions from shipping are offset by certified climate protection projects.
What do others say about Manuka Valley?
In addition to the information on a brand’s own website, independent reviews and product tests play an important role in assessing a brand’s quality.
As a very new brand, we don’t have many reviews yet, but the few we do have are all very positive. On Trustpilot, for example, we’ve received only 5-star reviews so far. Our customers particularly highlight the taste of the honey, the packaging, the refill system, and the information provided about Manuka honey.
